Bhubaneswar: A visually-impaired mother reported the abduction of her one-and-a-half-year-old son from a footpath adjacent to a temple in Bhubaneswar, as confirmed by local authorities on Sunday.
The distressing event occurred near Sri Ram Mandir on Janpath road late Saturday night.
The mother, in her late twenties, filed a formal complaint at the Kharvel Nagar police station, urgently requesting the return of her child.
In a tearful plea, she expressed, “I haven’t slept or eaten since last night, and my baby hasn’t had any food either. He is breastfed. Please bring my child back. I urge the police to help me find him. He might have been taken because I cannot see.”
She recounted that an unfamiliar man approached her while she was resting on the pavement with her two children.
“He offered my child fruit juice and handed over his mobile phone for my baby to play with. I dozed off, and when I woke up, the child was gone,” she explained, visibly distraught.
The woman relies on begging outside Sri Ram Mandir for her daily sustenance.
Authorities have initiated an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity of the temple.
According to a police officer, “We have identified two men seen walking on Janpath with a baby, heading from Sri Ram Mandir towards Raj Mahal. A vehicle was also involved in the abduction.”
